À propos de ce cours
Using the fantastic Define Pattern feature in Adobe Photoshop you can create really cool and seamless patterns for backgrounds to add to your social media posts and make them really pop and create patterns for wallpapers, fabrics or greetings cards. If you’re looking to create fun, eye-catching, and easy to create media these professional techniques will make your work really jump out!
Hi, I'm Tim!
I’m an Adobe Certified Instructor and Expert, and I work as a designer based in London.
In this short and enjoyable class, I’ll show you how to create this "leaves" background - using the Define Pattern feature. This is an easy course suitable for those with little Photoshop knowledge as I will go through and explain everything step-by-step.
Whether you want to jazz up a birthday card, create unique posters or adverts, or design cool social media posts and banners, this course will give you the skills to make it happen.
In this class, you’ll learn how to:
- Work with Layers and some traditional Photoshop Filters
- Use a Smart Object
- Use Blend Modes
- Make and save your own custom patterns
and more!
All lessons are delivered in short, bite-sized videos that are easy to follow. Whilst this assumes a little bit of knowledge, even if you're a beginner, you’ll be guided step-by-step through the process.
There are no resource files for this but I've given you my final Photoshop file to look at, as well as the pattern files that I created for the leaves and also the strawberry.
So whether you’re making something for websites, social media, or your next big celebration, let’s make it fun, creative, and totally enjoyable!
Let’s get started!

Website Banner
In this fun project, I'm going to ask you to make a website banner using a pattern. I have done mine using just circles. As you can see from this first screenshot, there is a little circle tool in Photoshop. I've created a few circles of different sizes and colors and then set the Blend Mode to Multiply.
Once you've done this, go into View menu and preview your pattern. At this stage you can move the shapes around or duplicate them until you get a very pleasing look.
Then go to the File menu and Define your pattern.
For the second part of this project, I'd like you to make a new document which is 1920 px wide by about 500 px high.
Bring your pattern in as an adjustment layer and then go to Adobe Stock Free images and choose an instrument of your choice to put on top.
Although we haven't covered cutouts in this short course, you can cut your instrument out easily with Adobe's AI features. Then put in a large piece of text of your choice.
Export this out as a jpg file.
As you can see mine has got some extra bits in if you look at my .psd file that you can download. I have used a Mask to cut out the trumpet and I've also changed the color of my pattern using a Hue & Saturation Adjustment Layer. You don't have to go this far, if you're not confident yet with these features. But whatever you do, create something wild and wonderful and have fun.
Below are the screenshots of my process for you.
