À propos de ce cours
In this class you'll be painting a barn owl where you'll learn to
- use wet in wet in a relatively controlled way to get both hard and soft edges
- use single strokes to create feathers without fussing
The class is broken down into simple easy to follow sections so that you can pace yourself and enjoy the process.

Hi, I'm Nadine,
I'm an Australian watercolour artist with a particular interest in wildlife art. I love the spontaneity of watercolour and the wonderful effects that can be achieved with very little input. I strive to keep my paintings loose and love the challenge of drawing the viewer into the work through a well placed shadow or detail.
For me, the quicker the painting and the fewer the strokes the better the result. I endeavour to teach my students to relax and remember - it's just a piece of paper.

Projet de cours pratique
Assignment
Your class project is to paint a barn owl using wet in wet to form a mix of soft and hard edges.
Materials
the reference photo can be directly downloaded from the project and resources section.
The paints I'll be using are
- Daniel Smith Indigo
- Daniel Smith Van Dycke Brown
- Winsor and Newton Burnt Umber
- Winsor and Newton Yellow Ochre
- Winsor and Newton Permanent Rose
- any blue - I'm using some Winsor and Newton French ultramarine
- White Gouache (this is just for a tiny highlight in the eye, no need to buy it)
Brushes
I'll be using a Neef 970 taklon round size 0 and size 6. A large oval brush, eg Neef 4600 squirrel mix size 12. I'm also using a bright stiff synthetic (Neef 95B-4) to lift some veins.
Arches cold press watercolour paper, 300g
Palette (I use a cheap basic one)
Board for the paper
Tissues/paper towel
HB pencil and eraser
Jar of water (probably two for this one)
