I've dabbled in subtraction art before, mostly for the purpose of being able to create the same pattern in different colors when selling in print-on-demand stores by changing the bottom layers, but this class gave me some new ways to play with and expand upon the technique.

For this project, I created a black layer, then drew a dappled rainbow layer above it with my favorite brush in Krita, then another black layer on top of that, then used the same brush to erase parts of the upper black layer to reveal the rainbow pattern beneath, as you can see below:
