Sensory Detail - Starry Night
The wind twirls across the sky, lit only by twinkling stars and the crescent moon. It whispers through the eavestroughs and rattles against closed windows in the little town, bringing with it the fresh scent of incoming rain. All is quiet in the town save for the ramblings of the wind and, inside their cozy homes, the peaceful rumble of sleeping citizens. A white wooden church stands in the centre square of the town, its single spire reaching hopefully up to the heavens. The paint is only just starting to flake and the outer walls carry a comforting scent of old wood. By day, a choir of harmonious voices sings praises that glorify the heavens above, and by night the heavens smile back with the radiance of a million stars. Before the town sits a watchful tangle of brambles and bush, swaying slightly in the breeze. In the dark of night it appears black and takes on an almost ominous demeanour. Its structure is asymmetrical, as new growths shoot dramatically upwards on one side, while the remainder stays low to the ground, humbled. It will not bow before the wind but stands strong amidst the unpredictable gusts, alone in its immediate vicinity but proud. Past the town, rolling hills rise and fall gracefully, tinted blue in the coolly lit night. The wind sweeps through the grass and wildflowers that clothe the hills, encouraging them to dance in the moonlight. The gentle slopes of the hilly landscape below inspire the wind to swirl and spin in similar shapes. The dizzying expanse of sky stretches over the town and the hills in endless layers of comforting darkness and stars that twinkle like a grandmother’s smile. All is peaceful.
