Your Art in A Gallery - A Step by Step Guide

Hey Cynthia!  Thank you so much for your help with this, and the class!  I've been wanting to get my artwork into these 3 galleries since forever, but have been nervous about taking the plunge, so this is a big help :)   I've created a sheet of my two different styles and am posting it here on my projects page (I'm new to skillshare--I hope I'm doing this right.)   The first style is digital, and the more impressive one, but the second one is original and seems to sell well.  Both are fanart-y and are targeted toward the animation/comic-con crowds, so kind of niche. There are 3 galleries I'd love to get my work into are in Southern California--about 650 miles away.  (A hit against me, for sure..esp in the case of Gallery Nucleus.)  The galleries: Disney Gallery (this is the one that sells artwork in Disneyland) - <a class="url" href="https://disneyland.disney.go.com/attractions/disneyland/disney-gallery/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">https://disneyland.disney.go.com/attractions/disneyland/disney-gallery/</a>  (This one is THE gallery on my bucket list.) Wonderground Gallery (they sell Disney artwork, but aren't "officially" Disney) - <a class="url" href="http://disneyparksmerchandise.com/parksauthentic/wonderground-gallery/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">http://disneyparksmerchandise.com/parksauthentic/wonderground-gallery/</a>  (They are also invitation-only.  I don't know how to get their attention.  Other artists tell me they're better than the Disney Gallery though because they allow your prints to be sold other places, too.) Nucleus Gallery (Probably the top-tier Gallery in this group) - <a class="url" href="http://www.gallerynucleus.com/" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.gallerynucleus.com/</a>  (These are the top artists in the animation industry--it would be awesome to get a place here, but they are pretty picky. (I believe they also only accept traditional art, and my watercolors may be too simple.)) What are your thoughts?  Am I aiming too high?

No, you aren't aiming too high! You have a niche style and you want to be represented by the galleries that cater to your niche market.

Find out who the gallery director or gallery manager is at each one, sometimes found on line, or just you the email on their website and address to the Gallery Director.

Start with a short, introduction email about yourself.  including a short highlight of your most compelling expertise/qualifications (when they show interest you send your full bio, artist statement, etc)

Right after your short 2 or 3 sentence intro let them know you are seeking gallery representation (since you've gone to their website you can say with authority, that you think their gallery would be a good fit for your work, in your own words, of course!)

Ask for their submission guidelines, and thank them for their time, etc.

Let them know you've  included 2 or 3 images attached to the email (medium res, no more than 1 MB , can be between 650 to 850K )  Be sure they are single images and not a screen shot with more than one image, (but you probably already knew that)

So it's a sweet, short intro so they get a sense of you, what you are requesting and 2 or 3 images.

***Be sure to include your WEBSITE link and all of your contact info when signing off.

Say they love you and your work make sure you find out what their artist policy's are. Some, you can't show in another gallery up to 75 miles from theirs, some, the whole state.

If they want to be exclusive, set your terms. They have to sell your work monthly for that to be profitable for you.  So limit the number of months you're willing to try that.

You are marvelous!  Thank you so much!  I hadn't even thought of finding out who the directors are, that's a great idea.  And I didn't realize that some would have gallery restrictions, that's good to know.  Ok!  I'm going to go through this again and come up with a cover letter.  Thank you so much!!
