Astrophotography in Montana

Astrophotography in Montana - student project

I brought some of my photography gear on a trip to Montana -- which, btw, is a city photographer's DREAM -- so I stepped outside of our lodge to snap some photos. A lodge employee saw me out on a dock, and offered to take me up onto the roof to get away from the lights on the lake. And then, the Northern lights came out.

It was stunning. Anyway, these are my shots.

Camera: Nikon D600
Lens: 14mm/f2.8

All images are 30 second exposures. ISO varies from 1600-3600. I found 6400 to be a little too grainy.
