I struggled to keep up with the diligence of the daily sketch but I guess that's what makes it a challenge right? I'm just getting around to the crowd of creatures prompt and man I don't know where those weird images came from but there they are! This was a fun one. I'm now trying to catch up and keep up with the challenge!

Great theme ! Octopusses are fascinating and it's so interesting to show them from different perspectives, colors and techniques !

Oh wow Mandi, I love your octopus! I especially love the variety of colors and textures. Also, YES it's totally okay if you'd prefer not to share the drawings you don't like - though I would encourage you to share them anyway, as a way of showing yourself that those drawings are an inherent part of the creative process and that you can be proud of showing up and getting creative even if you didn't like the result. Of course, this is NOT AN OBLIGATION. So no worries if you prefer keeping that one to yourself. IN any case you're doing GREAT and I look forward to seeing what else you make. Keep it up!

I sometimes find that I get attached to drawing with a reference photo - do think it's a good idea to try to create/sketch without reference? In order to exercise working from memory/imagination or what are your thoughts on relying on reference images?

I think using reference is fine! :) As long as it doesn't 'stop'/brake your creativity. Also it can help you learn how an object 'works' so that you can better draw it without reference. You can practice looking at the reference and trying to absorb what the shape is and remembering it for the future. But also give yourself the freedom to not use any references and simply flex your creativity and imagination. :) So yeah, I think both are great!! Hope taht helps.

I'm not sure that I entirely adhered to sketching out that octopus slowly the entire time BUT the prompt got me to draw today. I didn't tackle it in pen but I've never drawn an octopus like that before so I think it was overall a successful day. I didn't post yesterdays drawing because it was just blah. I did sketch so I feel like check, I did the challenge I just dont think what I created was anything - that's okay right?
