My name is Naomi Vona, I am an Italian artist based in London. I have a design and photography background (I graduated in 2009 in Brera Academy of Fine Arts, in Milan), and I draw over stuff since I was a little child. I like to call myself a “archival parasite” with no bad intentions, and it’s a perfect way to describe what I do.

I do collages from a long time, I started in 2003 (it was more a traditional “cut and paste” approach), but these kind of works are born while I moved from Italy to Ireland in 2013. A few months before moving to Dublin, I’ve bought lots of vintage photos and postcards from eBay because I’ve always loved to collect things as found stuff of any kind of material. Once I’ve had hundreds of vintage photos in my hands too, I just thought: why don’t put my collected stuff on them? So I started to play around collages. The result satisfied me so much, I felt really good and I didn’t want to stop anymore.

I use several materials as recycled and vintage paper, pens, washi tape (rice paper tape), highlighters, acrylics and stickers. I love to experiment mixing and matching old and new materials, and I also love these tools because were the one that I used when I was a child. These kinds of collages are the perfect mix between my passion for photography and design.

Most of the times I use as a canvas existing images as vintage photos, magazine pages, vinyl records and so on. There is no limit in what you can use, and this is why I love about my art practice. I would also like to show you how anything you should already have in your home could be transformed in something completely new, and to switch an everyday object into art.

I have a unique approach on doing art, my techniques involves a mixture of collage and illustration. I opened an account here in Skillshare because I felt that I could share with a wider audience my knowledge through some video tutorials, and to help anyone wants to try something new.
