Welcome back to another class! This is the first video in the Wire Post Earrings series. Check out the other videos in this series for more jewelry designs!
Creating these studs will show you how to
- create a spiral
- create a post for a stud earring
- tighten a shape in the wire
- use different types of pliers
- file the cut end of wire
What you need:
- needle-nose pliers
- chain-nose pliers
- nylon jaw/plastic-coated pliers
- wire/flush cutters
- ruler
- file
- 20 gauge jewelry wire in the color of your choice. (gold, silver, copper, etc)
- plastic earring backs

Create a Spiral Stud
Practice creating the first turn of the spiral with the needle-nose pliers. This step is usually the trickiest part for the spirals. But once you have it down, you’ll be wrapping spiral studs like a pro. Hold the wire firmly in the needle-nose pliers, using your finger to keep it from turning.
Grip the wire tightly in the straighteners to prevent it from slipping when wrapping the spiral. Readjust your hold as the spiral grows in size.
Play around with creating different sizes of spirals.
