Welcome back to another class! This is the second tutorial in the Wire Post Earrings series. Check out the other videos for more wire jewelry designs!
We will be learning how to
- tie a knot in wire
- create a post for a stud earring
- tighten a shape in the wire
- use different types of pliers
- file the cut end of wire
The tools you need:
- needle-nose pliers
- flat-nose pliers
- wire straighteners/plastic-coated pliers
- wire/flush cutters
- ruler
- file
- 20 gauge jewelry wire in the color of your choice. (gold, silver, copper, etc)
- plastic earring backs

Create a Knotted Stud
Work on tying the knot as near to the end of wire as possible. This way you don’t cut off a lot of wire scrap. If you do have a lot of excess wire to trim, you could use it to create another small design. Perhaps use it to create a small spiral stud!
Practice tightening the knot with the straighteners. You can push against the knot to tighten it, but I find it best to pull both ends of the wire at the same time.
Have fun with creating the knot. Bend the post so that the knots are mirrored or matching. You could also try tying the knots in opposite directions to create the mirrored look. Then when you create the post, you would bend the wire in the same direction on both studs.
