If you’ve ever wanted to explore the world of pottery but didn’t know where to start this class is your perfect starting point! Rolling out a slab is a core skill you’ll need to embark on your hand building pottery journey.
You’ll start to see how a simple slab of clay can be transformed into basically anything using simple tools you can find right at home.
Hand-building is a deeply mindful process, connecting you to the earth as you shape and create.
I’ll run you through how to roll out a slab of clay and the tools needed, this is the starting point for so many decorating techniques and pottery projects.

The Project:
Your class project is to roll out your own slab of clay, if you like you can then experiment with creating different textures on your slab as well.
Materials:
To roll out a slab of clay you’ll need a few household items.
- Work surface
- Rolling pin
- Rib or old credit card
- Wire or dental floss
- Clay
