Zorro Thread Spool - image 1 - student project

My inspiration came from a random spool of thread that I had laying on one of my worktables. I'm a fencer, so my immediate thought was a fencing thread spool dueling with a needle.

My initial sketch turned out to be almost exactly what I wanted.

It took me a while to take this rough sketch and turn it into something that I liked. None of my refined versions had the character and fluidity of the original sketch. I liked the idea of turning him into Zorro, so I just added Zorro details over the top of the initial sketch.

I hopped over into Illustrator to make the final version using vectors.
