My only experience with ink was my using technical pens to outline my drawings, but I used them completely oblivious to all the different techniques and possibilities that this medium offers! These are the results of my first go at inking in a more or less serious way:

I don´t have any nibs at the moment, so I´m just practicing with my brush pens, brushes and technical pens. I´m quite new to brushes and brush pens, so it´s been a bit difficult to control the line, it usually comes out really shaky, but I´m slowly improving. It´s good that I´m learning a bit of lettering at the moment because I do a lot of repetition exercises which are all about controlling your line variation.

Definitely, brushes and brush pens with flexible tips are the most difficult to control, but the line variation is so beautiful I just want to keep practicing. Technical pens and my Faber-Castell brush pen (which has a less flexible tip) are easier to control, and I find the line more elegant but less charming and cute.

Once I´ve uploaded my worksheet I´ve realised I need to practice shading lots, so I guess I´ll complete it again a few times.

This is the second worksheet I´ve completed. I´m really proud of the wood texture and I found the intricate line pattern veery difficult, but it just takes practice. I think in my next one (for sure I will keep practicing with these) I´ll try to use positive and negative space more.

Mini Project Four (Mark Making Exercise)

This exercise was so fun, I´m afraid I overdid it a little bit. I used all my brushes and brush pens, nibs, a paper towel, a toothbrush and my technical pens. This is definitely a great way to get to know your tools, what they are capable of, to loosen up and to experiment.

Final Projects

The small mermaid is my first drawing for the final project. I used technical pens and diluted ink. I tried to focus mainly on the patterns in her hair and tail, but I´m afraid I didn´t pay as much attention to shading and I´m not really happy with how it looks. I plan to redraw this little mermaid in the future to improve it. I also drawed these two animal crossing cuties to practice different shading techniques (hatching and stippling) and to sharpen my observational skills. Maybe I´ll draw all the villagers to practice everything I´ve learned in this class! :3

Anyhow, this has been a fun, enjoyable and challenging class. I still find it really difficult to control my line and my line variation (shaky hands :-/). Overall, I feel like I´ve learned sooo much, but I still need to practice lots, which I´m looking forward to. Thanks again, Yasmina, for making these classes and sharing your knowledge. They´re awesome!
