Intuitive Watercolor Floral Series: Class One, Get Grounded

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

In this first installment in a series of three classes, you will learn the foundational techniques that I use to paint watercolor florals.

I created these classes to teach you how to paint in my washy, soulful style. In addition to learning the techniques used in watercolor painting, together we will walk through the entire creative process. Learning to paint isn’t just about technical knowledge, it is also about quieting the mind and intuitively exploring through art-making. As we will let the materials do the work, we learn to let go of our need to control the outcome and surrender to the creative process, allowing our souls to tell their story.

In this first class we discuss getting grounded and building a strong foundation.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:

To create simple leaf and flower shapes with the use of brushwork.
To build interest and beauty within those shapes using color blending and dripping techniques.
To add more depth to your piece by overlapping.
To allow the materials to do the work.
To practice letting go of control and surrendering to the process.

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR:

This class is suitable for all levels. We will begin with simple basic painting techniques to create a strong foundation and build on those techniques in the intermediate and advanced classes. If you an experienced painter, I still recommend taking this class as we will refer back to it throughout the series.

MATERIALS/RESOURCES:

Watercolors, watercolor paper and a round brush, preferably size 10-12 . I’ve included a list of supplies that I use in the resources section. You do not have to use these exact supplies. Start with what you have.

Throughout the class I will talk about letting go of control over the outcome, trusting the process and that beauty is found in the imperfections of your art.

Class One: This is a foundation class to learn the basic techniques and philosophy of my painting style.
