Class Description:

In this class I will show you how to create an expressive portrait in Adobe Photoshop, using a pen and ink technique! This concept can be easily transferred to physical media as well.

Whether you are experienced in portrait drawing or just starting out, in this class I will teach you how to create a work of art that is unique and show-stopping.

You will also learn skills for portrait drawing that can be transferred to other media.

This class requires either a computer or tablet with adobe photoshop, a tablet with procreate, or drawing paper, pencil, and a felt tip pen.

Project Description:

The class project will be the creation of an expressive line portrait using the techniques learned in the course of the class.

Students will create a drawing with me, starting by choosing a reference photo and tracing the major features and shadows, and then adding shadows and details with line to create the finished product.

The finished project that students can submit will be in the form of a photo of their work, and any thoughts they have to share about their process.

Begin Drawing: Finding Major Facial Features and Shadows through Tracing

With the reference photo as the base layer, begin to observe where major facial features are and tracing them lightly with a colored brush/pen so that they stand out. Do the same with mejor shadows and highlights.
