I took it upon myself to propose to my then-girlfriend/now-wife in a way that highlighted all of the key moments of our relationship and one that would be truly special.

In the early years of our relationship, we were avid watchers of the show "The Amazing Race". We always talked about applying to be on the show so that we could travel, do missions together, and have an all-around fantastic experience. We only got around to applying once, but sadly never made the cut.

Fast forward to 2011: I had made the decision that I wanted to ask her to be my wife, and I made it my mission to do something unique to our relationship. I spent three months planning a day-long "The Amazing Race" style experience that traversed through the various milestones of our relationship, and would ultimately culminate in my proposal.

One thing I realized was that I couldn't be with her during the experience, as I had to organize everything on the day-of (not to mention that I would risk spilling the beans if she asked too many questions!) - that's why I decided to have it filmed: so that (selfishly) I could see the day through her eyes and so that our family could share in the experience for years to come.

I throw a similar level of effort and enthusiasm into everything that I do. Once you learn how to break down big problems into more easily consumable pieces, you can approach any challenge and excel. That's why I love entrepreneurship, finance, and engineering: they give you a lens by which to view the world and understand how it works - this allows that "break-down" process and allows for bottoms-up problem solving.
