Note: I ended up using some colors outside this scope, that were more vibrant, to balance the composition.

Note: used thumbnails for concept art, and tried different flowers and combinations until I was pleased with the results. I had so much fun with the first thumbnail and had so may ideas that I ended up doing a three-parted exercise.
While building the thumbnails I always used this combination:

a big and eye-catching flower as main piece;
a long element;
a smaller element with an expressive shape;
berries to fill the smaller spaces.

I also used mushrooms, because I really like their shapes and colors.

Thumbnail 1 (left) - petunias, blue capped mushrooms (entoloma hochstetteri), blueberries, lavender and ginkgo biloba leaves;
Thumbnail 2 (center) - ranunculus, branches of berries and loose berries, olivetree leaves, sweetpeas flowers and harestail grass;

Thumbnail 3 (right) - vine leaves, orchids, cherries, fuchsia flowers and toadstools (in yellow/orange themes)

Note: thumbnail 3 has the end result that I liked less, although it's the most vibrant. The leaves were difficult and their outcome wasn't what I was aiming for, butI loved the cherries and the mushrooms.

Conclusion:

Florals always were a problem for me because, I don't connect with the really expressive and loose way that many artists that I follow use, I'm a bit more tight building the forms, and I hadn't really found my style yet.

This project really helped me break down the process of understanding the shapes and the process of building a pattern, and I even discovered the way that I like to paint florals, so I thing it's not only really helpful, but for me it was a huge improvement.
