For your class project, you’ll create a logo design complete with a presentation for clients.

The project for this class will be divided in two. In the first section, we’ll cover the fundamentals of logo design and in the second part we’ll go through a practical logo design workflow: how to develop concepts from start to finish and finally how you can present your designs to your clients.

Here are the main steps within your class project:

Watch the theoretical lessons and complete the exercises in the class guidebook to familiarize yourself with the fundamentals.
Complete the Brief or create a brief with answers for a mock client.
Conduct your market research
Assemble your moodboard
Brainstorm with sketches
Refine the sketches in the software in a digital format (I'll be using Adobe Illustration, but you can use whatever program you're comfortable with)
Search for appropriate mockups for the mock brand
Assemble the presentation for your mock client
Create the final deliverables including all files and formats discussed in the course

In your final logo designs, I’ll be looking for:

Simplified logo designs that have one meaning.
Scalable logo designs that look good on small formats.
Logo designs made of geometrical shapes or grid lines.
Color combinations of the logo with good color contrast.
Well-balanced typography of the wordmark.
Simple sketches with very low details.

Class requirements:

Pen and paper or sketchbook. You also can include some brush markers which help highlight the stroke lines and fill in the logo sketch.
Adobe Illustrator will be the software of choice in which we are going to refine the logos.

Class Guidebook & Resources: You can download all the resources with links to free no licensing fonts, links with more tutorials from me on YouTube and of course the Class Guide Book that includes the main process of the class in a copywritten version.

Upload your logo designs and progress: Please share your logo designs that you created in the “Project Gallery” and sketches that you have, so I can give you feedback on your designs.

Discussions and Reviews: If you have any questions at all when you finish the class, I encourage you to post them in the “Discussions” section, and don’t forget to give a review as well.

The best way to practice logo design is to practice designing logos armed with the knowledge of the fundamentals. The more you replicate this workflow, the clearer and more second nature it will become to you. I suggest you set a practice regime of 3-4x a week (1h a day) for the first 3-4 months you are learning logo design, practice as much as you can so at the end of a quarter you can assemble a nice portfolio. Feel free to post as many projects as you’d like for feedback as you develop your portfolio.
