Hi everyone,

I am writing to you early in the morning with my warm dressing gown and fluffy old slippers on. It’s Autumn in Australia and we’ve had a cold snap here that made me swap my summer brunch coat for my winter dressing gown. This makes me think that the weather might be warming for many of you north of the equator.

I hope you’ve had time to get out your paints and brushes and steal yourself away from the pressures of daily life. I know that being creative helps me not dwell on all the problems that life throws at me. Painting calms me and gives me something else to focus on.

I had a busy week last week going backwards and forwards to the hospital. Dom, my husband, fell off the ladder on Good Friday and has 9 rib fractures as a result. He’s home now, thankfully, and I am grateful that I can get back to work. It’s only been a week but how I have missed my brushes! Yesterday I painted this iris and it felt so good to be painting again.

A big thank you to everyone who has completed my latest class: Watercolor Rose: Using Lost Edges to create Form and Depth.

You should see the gorgeous rose paintings that students have uploaded to the Projects and Resources page. They are absolutely beautiful and they make me very proud. Many of you have also been uploading your paintings in my private watercolour Facebook group where myself and other students can see them. If you aren’t a member already, you are most welcome to join the group. It's a friendly group and members share their paintings and any hints and tips they have about painting in watercolour.

I’m starting to think of ideas for my next Skillshare class and I’d love your input. What would you like to learn? Are there any specific techniques that you are finding difficult to learn or are there any specific subjects that you’d love to paint?

Two ideas I have been thinking about are:

Painting a white subject.
Painting a subject that makes use of my dry on wet technique to control the paint and add detail
