I was really excited to delve into another class by Ohn Mar. Her classes and her voice are peaceful and stretch my thinking with different materials and how to use them. This class was did not disappoint.

I learned a few new techniques like the tooth brush with spatter affect, but I've used masking tape and masking fluid in the past. I always enjoy Ohn Mar's classes as they are soothing and calming. I wish I could be there with you in October!!! Anyway here's my work.

I started off with the masking fluid testing the sheets. I tested Arteza watercolor sketchbook paper, strathmore, moleskin, and a heavy weighted mixed media paper. I also tested out Fluid watercolor paper. All of the papers were cold press.

my tools included the Molotow masking pen, the bras blue nibs, toothpick, tooth brushes and q-tips.

the moleskine paper seems to hold the masking fluid really well. however the paper would wrinkle and fold a bit

the mixed media paper held perfectly. It did curve just a little but there were no folds

the arteza paper had blue bleeding into it from the pebeo masking fluid especially in areas where there was soap on the brush. this paper was the lightest in weight and tore when erasing the masking fluid

I enjoyed the texture that was left behind while using the brush and the soap with the masking fluid.

after adding ink I realized I missed a handle, so I used gouache to correct my mistake. looking back I would have kept it as a handle free mug.

this version I used ink wash in the background and watercolor for the florals

this was my second attempt as the whale. I think my paper choice was too small making my drawing look distorted.

my rocks look like pebbles, I think they would look great as a pattern as well as stickers

this here above is the arteza paper. I was really disappointed to see the page ripped - but I do think the temperature of the room played a part in it. The paper consistently felt damp - so perhaps the humidity played a role in that. I found the test sheets did much better than this painting did.

I enjoyed learning this technique of layering the masking fluid. it gives me many more ideas of how to use masking fluid in the future.

I've left my favorite piece for last. This was my first attempt while making daisies. if you have a better suggestion on how to make the sunflowers I would love to know so I can make another version.
