Getting Started

Before we can begin with the class you need a picture of a model.
You can either grab a picture from the internet or even better, snap a shot of a close friend or spouse.

Some things to keep in mind when grabbing or taking a picture:

Picture does not have to be sharp or professionally taken. A simple picture taken from your phone is perfect!
Make sure the photo is properly lit and to your liking. The angle of light, the way shadows fall etc.
Try to avoid wild and long loose hairstyles as it will make painting later on difficult.
Preferably no visible large tattoos. Unfortunately the techniques we will be applying will not work well with tattoos.
Look for inspiration in terms of clothing and styles online. The more appropriate to the time period the more authentic the PinUp illustration will look when you're finished.

Some notes for beginners / Photoshop first timers

Hold the spacebar to move around the canvas.
Hold ⌘ Command and press - or + to zoom in and out.
Use the bracket keys [ and ] to decrease and increase the size of the brush on the fly.
⌘ Command and Z = Undo
⌘ Command, Shift and Z = Redo
⌘ Command and I = Invert Selection
⌘ Command and T = Transform and will let you transform the selection or layer
⌘ Command and E = Merges two selected layers
Save often!
