Hey, I’m Jose Morquecho, and in this course, we will learn how to animate your design in 3D utilizing Cinema 4D or cinema 4D Lite. I’ll teach you how to turn a 2 dimensional design into an animated 3D object using. For the class project, you’ll be animating a simple looping gif with your own 2D design. This class is for beginners interested in exploring 3 dimensional motion graphics. In order to complete this project, we’ll be using Illustrator, After Effects, Cinema 4D Lite, and Photoshop.

Lesson Videos

1. Preparing Illustrator File for C4D

Open up design/logo in Illustrator.
File > Save as > Illustrator 8.
For your first project upload, take a screenshot of your 2D design that you’re planning to animate.

2. Importing Logo File into C4D

Open up After Effects.
File > New > MAXON CINEMA 4D file
File > Open > Illustrator 8 design file

3. Adding Depth, Color, and Light to your 2D Logo

Bring Coordinates to 0 0 0
Extrude > Check Hierarchical
Add depth
Add Material. Change to Blue.
Add Light. Move on z path -500
Hit render in render view to see what the fully rendered project will look like.
For your second part of the project, take screenshot of your 3D design and upload it.

4. Adding a Camera

Add a Camera. Move on z path -1000

5. Animating your 3D Object.

Discuss timeline. 90 Keyframes. (C4D starts from zero, so it will be 91 frames when in after effects) Make it 89 keyframes.
Rotation Animation 360 degrees. Make keyframes. Change from spline to Linear.
Y animation up and down,
Save

6. Stylizing in After Effects

Drag C4D file to composition.
Add Background Gradient.
Stylize Animation. Adjustment Layer: Glow

7. Export to GIF

Composition > Add to Render Queue > Name it >Render
Open Photoshop. File > Open >
Export > Save For Web (Legacy).
GIF. Looping Options: Forever. Save.
For the final part of the project, upload your animated GIF.
