I've just started taking this class and as I'm following class instructions, here I am uploading my first exercise of the pencil sketch (30 minutes).

Haven't drawn with pencil for the longest of times so I won't lie, this illustration was super stressful! But I pushed through and completed the exercise which is the main thing! (20.03.2020)

Here is my second exercise! In this exercise, I did a light pencil sketch and proceeded with Black Indian Ink. I found this image much more relaxing to create! (21.03.2020)

Finding My Style Project - image 4 - student project My 4th exercise for this class project! My first reaction to the work prompt was “Full Moon”, but I wanted to push the prompt a little further and added “Full body Tattoo”. Really happy with this sketch!

Finding My Style Project - image 5 - student project Really happy with how this sketch came out for the final exercise! I’ve always loved jungle/tropical themes and wanted more of that in my work so I created this illustration which I hope to later ink

SUMMARY CLASS REFLECTION

Exercise 1: In the first exercise, I used an A4 sketchbook, a 2H, 4B and 6B for my drawing. I can see that I tried to capture the subject as realistically as possible while capturing the flowers in a whimsical and rhombic way in how each petal is very flowing and soft. I was quite generous with my shedding to give the flowers dimension and life, though I didn’t add a background as I solely focused on the subject matter. I gave strong outlines around the petal shapes to give each one a solid definition.

Exercise 2: For this exercise, I also chose black ink and water. I first lightly sketched with a 2H, and then used a needed eraser to remove the lined as much as possible. I really loved the effect of the ink with this subject. I love leaved bract white spaces to represent light and defined the darkest parts on the centre of the berries. This again gives the work a soft, modern and dreamy feel. The subject feels warm even though its in black in white, due to the soft shading and rounded shapes.

Exercise 3: In this exercise, I found I really struggled from operating from memory. I felt my confidence go down when I had nothing to continuously refer to from reality. My proportions were all over the place and my colours felt pretty flat. It’s clear that when it comes to my work, I operate better when I romanticise things from real life that I can refer back to, as I pride myself on technical shapes.

Exercise 4: For this exercise, I was surprised by how I interpreted the prompt into some that I would love to draw. Full Moon AND Full Body Tattoos. My subject matter again in itself is very dreamy, romantic, mystical and mysterious. There's also that focalisation again, where I put the most amount of concentration and effort into the centre subject. Everything else is simply decorative.

Exercise 5: For this exercise, I chose again to use a digital medium (procreate) and drew a tropical jungle cheetah. I’ve recently been going back through what used to inspire me as a kid and that I still love now, and that is everything tropical, bohemian, mystical, mysterious, wild and animalistic.
