when it feels like you’re falling flat on your face?

Today was a busy day. Busier than I was expecting. And it meant I didn’t really have the opportunity to focus on the web comic I’m creating as much as I wanted.

So production slowed down just a little.

Now my creative brain saw this as a failure. I’d actually been working on 2 other client projects the whole day and achieved quite a lot. But instead of seeing how much I had achieved, instead I chose to focus on what I didn’t achieve.

I’ve worked for myself as a business owner for many years. And many clients I’ve worked for have always been lovely and accomodating when it comes to productivity.

And surprisingly in all those projects where I’ve worked for someone else, never have I had that same excruciating feeling of failure if I didn’t finish that daily task, than when I worked on my own projects.

Most clients are happy to extend a deadline or willing to accomodate holidays and weekends.

But not me! For some weird reason I’ve become my worst boss EVER!

Luckily I have the wonderful love and support of my wife, who is also an artist, and I told her how I was feeling

She reminded me that it wasn’t the end of the world. And that I had actually achieved quite a lot today.

And I think that was something that I really lacked in the earlier stages of my artistic and professional growth. Having a network or group of people around me that understood what its like being creative and you could talk about these things with them.

And that is what I want this to be for you. Being creative can sometimes feel a little lonely at times. So please feel free to send me a message about your creative ideas, hurdles, goals or weaknesses. I’d love to hear from you.

Anyway I just wanted to make a short message to remind all creatives out there, not to be so hard on yourselves if you don’t finish that creative project you promised you would get done today.

There is still tomorrow.
