Hello everyone and welcome to my first Skillshare class!

I have been painting with oils for over five years and I just love this medium! There is so much room for flexibility and experimentation that the possibilities of each painting are endless!

I made this course because I feel that many people are put off using them because they think that oils are just too messy and complicated... While there may be some truth to that, I feel that oil paints offer so much that other mediums don't!

The aim of this course was to teach you everything that you'd need to know to get started with oil painting.

Here are some of the main topics that I'll be covering:

Benefits of oils - I'll go over some of the main differences between oils and other mediums and the best properties of oil paints (basically ranting how great they are).

Materials - I'll cover all the essential supplies that you'll need with demonstrations including types of brushes, different kinds of oil paints and brands and different painting surfaces.

Painting mediums - Painting mediums can play an important role in oil paintings and can really enhance the overall look and also your painting experience.

Cleaning and maintenance - You'll learn how to properly take care of your materials to get the most out of them.

Colour - You'll learn the basics of colour theory and I'll teach a few colour combinations to create certain effects.

Essential oil painting techniques - These are a few techniques that can be applied to every painting you do designed to make painting easier.

Project demos - Follow along with me in a couple of painting demos to really cement your new found skills. Nothing beats practice!

By the end you should have all the tools and skills you'll need to begin painting!
