Hey Artists and GIMP'ers.

It's the end of May and I thought I should write something. I actually used to write regularly, especially at my journal on DeviantArt, but these days I've slowed down a bit. I write a lot about my usual projects, art and illustration, daily life, food and health, etc. Sometimes a lot of people read, sometimes very few, but it doesn't really matter to me - I just like writing sometime. It helps to clear the mind.

Just a week ago I received an award at DeviantArt (DA) called "Daily Deviation". This award is given out daily, and they select from some of the best art on DA, usually something that's been uploaded recently. This work below is the one that got nominated (made in GIMP of course).

I don't know how I got nominated. It was a complete surprise, very unexpected, and I was extremely honored and happy to get this reward and the badge that comes with it. I've been on DA almost every single day for many years now.

After getting the award it brings a flock of attention. I've never had to many likes on a work I've done before, and I've never had so many people follow me overnight. So that was interesting to say the least.

At about the same time I received the DD (Daily Deviation) I also had just finished another illustration - and I'm actually more proud of that one, ironically.

This one is a bit more dark, obviously. I felt inspired by an artist Peter Mohrbacher who I'm following as a patron these days. I really love his work. He paints these "angels" which are not your traditional angels. They are sort of surreal fantasy, or mythological types of beings. But what I like about it most is that the art has so much inspiration put into with such a simple foundation.

That's about it. Every drawing he does seems to follow that foundation, but the results are really amazing.

His work is also very dark. For me, I will probably continue to look for things with a bit more of a light mood. But I can equally appreciate a dark mood too. I often make illustrations which are a bit dark. Especially around Halloween every year. That's natural of course :)

Well, that's all for now. I don't want to write too much.

I am currently revamping my video content and updating my website. After I get everything organized I might look into making some more relevant classes. Things are getting a bit stale, and many of my old classes have been archived already.
