So, you can make a repeating pattern. YAY! (<<< that trick alone took me two years to learn when I first started out!) Now you're obsessed. You're seeing patterns everywhere you look and your head is spinning with a million different possibilities, deconstructing them in your mind, trying to find the repeat and wondering how exactly the artist built the file. You're thinking: what about diagonal patterns, patterns with lots of lines and those tricky mathematical geometric patterns? (<<< HINT, my trick requires no math!) How do you get that 'layered' effect when Illustrator doesn't let you 'make a pattern with a pattern'? (You know you've gotten that error!).

In this course, I'm happy to debunk all of those myths, answer your questions and share loads of helpful tips and tricks along the way. Are you ready to get started?!

Project Description

Create a repeating pattern using one of the techniques taught in class (a geometric, diagonal, layered, textured or lined pattern).

Feeling in over your head? If you're new to Illustrator, I would love to have you join me in my other Skillshare courses! Both Intro to Surface Pattern Design and Surface Pattern Design 2.0 are very comprehensive. This course will assume that you're either competent in Illustrator or that you've taken these two courses first. :)

Your Student Project

When you're ready, begin uploading your process (we love the process!) and final pattern to the student project gallery. A complete student project should include:

A short bio + intro to your project - we want to get to know you!
A few process shots (think sketches, document screen shots, etc)
Your final repeating pattern.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

All you'll need for this course is Adobe Illustrator (begin a free trial here)! This class is taught in Adobe CC, though any version should work! :)
