In this class, you'll discover what I believe to be the most crucial element in your watercolor practice: understanding the behavior of your WATER — how it moves, how it dries, how pigments move within itr, and what the sheen of your paper can tell you about where your water is at in the drying process.

We'll delve into these essential details while creating beautiful moody washes with soft edges and gradients. You'll learn:

how to make a flat wash
how to make a monochrome cloud-like wash
how to make a variegated wash
what to pay attention to at every step of the process
how watercolor blooms form and how to avoid them
how to keep a playful & experimental approach to learning
how movement can be a magical (and fun) part of your watercolor practice
ideas and tips for further explorations

and I'll also show you many examples within my own artwork of how to USE these flat washes in your illustrations and paintings, to serve the message and mood of your artwork.

Learning to make different kinds of flat & variegated washes is a major step in allowing you to create mesmerizing dreamy illustrations that can feel like a real accomplishment in your watercolour journey —it was for me! It allowed me to unlock the mystery of watercolor, the part of it that I was trying to learn intuitively but that somehow always felt outside of my grasp. That's what I hope to teach you today.
