I started this class today and I haven't stopped working on this awesome project for a few hours now. So forgive anything I type that doesn't make sense. Its about 3am where I am.

Though I am not a huge Lord of the Rings fan, my favorite quote came from the great gray wizard Gandalf.

The World is not in your books and maps. Its out there. -Gandalf, the gray.

I decided I would take the quote and make it my own. I didn't want to make one based on the movie. So these are the words I came up with for my initial list.

I found myself looking up a lot of nautical images and I think that theme represented me the best. I love ocean colors, animals, pirates, mystery, and its my favorite place to be. So I created this moodboard.

I love the old fashion illustrutive feel of this board but I was lacking a ton of inspiration when it came to type. I like heavy ornamentation with typography and found a typographer whose work I wanted to mimic in my design. I chose Mateusz Witczak, a 23 year old Polish designer who draws by hand each typeface creating awesome type work. These are some of the designs that I love most.

Now that I had type and style, the next step was to start sketching.

BUT before I go any farther I need some help! I'd like some opinions on the general sketch before I start inking anything. Please and thank you :D

So I haven't illustrated this, I've been pretty busy but I started the inking process The World is not in your books and maps. Its out there! - image 10 - student project

I've actually started doing other lettering projects ( I tend to do that, have a great idea and another comes along). I will finish the books and maps quote as soon as I can!
