So here is my finished workshop, I didn't get to work on these as intently as I had hoped, but I finished and sometimes that's just as important. I think I actually did 6 of the prompts and I know that I'll keep the brief to use when I feel stuck or just want to play to get the juices flowing. It's also a really great jumping off point and there is so much more that I want to explore now. This was a wonderful workshop, thank you Peggy and Dylan!!

Prompt: Colors that Buzz

Going to the complementary colors always creates a nice buzz and energy. I like to use the complement as only an accent.

Prompt: Subtle Bouquet

I really liked doing this one and I made sure that everything I painted wasn't sketched out first. I wanted to see if there was a better energy to the picture, not something tired and overworked which I have a tendency to do. I also favor this palette.

Again this is freehand, and I think I like the shape of the bouquet and the looseness but I'm finding that I'm favoring the bolder, bright colors less.

Prompt: Garden of Shapes

I decided to paint this using every color and keeping it bright, I really like analogous color schemes so I like the way it flows from one color group to the next. The shapes are mostly organic too which I seem to gravitate towards. I thought of using pen to outline shapes or give it some texture, but decided that I liked the simplicity of this.

Prompt: Cozy scene no color

I used my Daniel Smith dot cards for this and soon blasted through the Payne's Gray Blue, and moved on to Payne's Gray, so while there is no color there is a variation in temperature. My cabin got a little lost as my paper wouldn't seem to take anymore pigment, it was kind of strange because it was only on that one side. Anyway, I went over it with pen a little and now it looks a little cartoony lol!

This was a lot of fun and somewhat difficult sifting through the artwork, because I love so much of it!

BALANCE

So many of these images could cross over to the other elements/principles for me, I chose balance for these images because of the symmetry, especially in the first three images. The last one on the bottom right probably fits into the shape category as well, but the balance created with values and shapes are very well thought out. I also love the contrast in the top left image and the emphasis on the backpack. I love folk art, I think the symmetry and the bright colors really draw me in.

LINE

All of these images really speak to me as far as line quality and texture that's created. I love organic shapes and simplicity. I love the different line weights used in the bottom left, along with the loose watercolor blocks of color. The bicycle image is sweet and the use of hand drawn lines gives it a super whimsical feel, the same goes for the flower illustration with bird. The top right is one of my favorite, I love the texture created with the line, along with the use of negative space.

COLOR

I really love color! You can say so much with a color palette, like the girl on the bottom left with the complimentary purple and yellow! The same goes for the radish and the dress, it really creates a vibration and can make the simplest subjects pop. I also love the monochromatic green stairs and then the soft pastel palette (which is still a nice complimentary palette) in Miho Hirano's piece.

I love the negative shapes that are created with the placement of each of these. I have to say that I also really love the colors in these as well.
