Mastering Photo Editing: Transform Your Photos into Great Art

Hey Diana, very cool shot! It's interesting how a photo can take on a totally different feel when you convert it to B&amp;W. The tones especially on the surface of the plane are really nice and the clouds add an aura of mystery to the image (are they clouds or exhaust from other aircraft?...) Not necessary but as a creative exercise, maybe try adjusting the blue/cyan sliders in the B&amp;W adjustment layer. Given that the sky likely contains blue, it might separate more from the airplane assuming there isn't a lot of blue reflecting on the surface of the plane. Again, really nice image and thanks so much for posting.

Hey Stuart, thank you a lot for nice review. Photoshoot of such aircraft was a challenge itself, while photo editing very fascinating. The clouds arose in the factory nearby. That is why they are so nicely uplifted. I played with cyan slider, unfortunately aircraft has grey/bluish surface. I've tried masking, but there was a little bit unreal effect at the end. But I will definitely try more :)

Yeah, I was afraid of that! You can try using the "quick selection tool" in Photoshop to isolate the plane a bit more from the sky. I find that that can work really well and it is fast and easy. There are other more advanced selection techniques like using the "color range" tool or channels in making a selection. I'll try to cover that in a future video, but try the quick selection.

Thanks for advices. I used selection to isolate aircraft. Then worked with clouds. They're not very sharp, because of motion blur while photoshooting. But I increased contract with curves layer and then used dodge&amp;burn tool to accent highlights and shadows. What do you think? :)

Yes, you've definitely upped the image! The contrast in the sky really adds to the image. One other thing to try now that you've darkened the sky: try lightening the areas of the plane that face up. I think a little more contrast and lightening of those parts of the plane could really make the photo pop more. Your center of interest usually is the part of the photo with the most contrast, so keep that in mind. But overall, nice progress and image!!
