6 Fun Creative Writing Hacks

I like this a lot. Every sentence made me wonder: "oh really?" "Oh? why?" I find it very intruiging. If I would read this as the first lines of a novel, I'd buy it immediately!

Clocks in hospitals don’t chime let alone the existence of chiming ones, unless … your reoccurring dream is set in the olden days where it had a clock tower to inform all doctors, interns and nurses what’s next on their respective agenda. But, a secret hospital? And gunfire on the hour? Every hour? This no less a politically charged environment of a Mengele-esque nature. A mental institution where prisoners of war are medically experimented on. “Climbing through the crawl space” lures you into a false sense of security of escape for it had always led you to the flat roof of a tower of a four cornered battlemented structure. Imprisonment taken up a notch.‘’The weather was overcast as usual’’ but peering through the gaps of the battlement at the soldiers marching 150 feet below before a gigantic co-opted symbol of racial purification simply accentuates the gloom. Back through the crawl space you go and resume your place in the corner of your designated ward.The half masked figure in white apparel appears. Like clockwork he administers his concoction of his routinely scheduled experimentation. Syringe draws close to your face. Liquid squirts out of the needle of the vertically held device as plunger depresses the air pockets out of the barrel. The needle is then lowered and placed on a bulging vein in the side of your neck. Just as It penetrates your skin the resounding gunfire fills the courtyard below sounding the hour. You let out a yell as the furious blink of your eyelids slow down to a relieved rest. A tensed whisper emanates, “there’s that dream again!”

Hi Hannah, Thanks for sharing your idea - I love it and brings many questions to mind, things I'd like to know, so if this idea finds its way into a broader story, I think you'd have lots to play with there! ;-) Well done!

This isn't a real dream I actually had, this was just something that came to mind when I pulled this post-it off the block. I don't think there's any more to the story, the rest is up to the reader to decide. Is the hospital real? Is this happening in 'our' world? It's up to the reader to decide now.&nbsp;
