Misty mayhem

Misty mayhem - student project

Equipment used:

a piece of paper from a mix watercolour starter pack (130lb NOT) - it held up well without being taped, though the paper never got too wet so no sign of buckling

Staedler pigment liners of various thicknesses - they didn't really like the paper, especially the finer pens, I could have used 0.8 for the thick lines and 0.5 for the fine lines and it would have looked more like a 0.5 and a 0.1

Gelly Roll white gel pen (it's a bit temperamental at the best of times, drawing over paint may have been a step too far)

Winsor & Newton half pan set of paints

W&N Cotman round brush, size 4

I copied the design freehand so there are some variations.

I am very pleased with some of the elements of the painting :-). I think I like the bird's head best and the oak leaves second. The flowers would have been my second favourite as I was pleased with the colour transitions, but I don't like my outlining,

The mist was new to me and I think I'll have to try some of the other classes to get the hang of the technique and the colour selection. I tried going round in water after it had nearly dried to increase the mistiness, but generally the whole thing looks a bit messy.
