Dolly Parton Portrait
I chose a photograph of Dolly Parton as reference because she is such a fun subject to draw and felt her beauty lends itself very well to be adapted in the style of a classical painting. Granted not an easy reference because of the intricate pattern on her shirt and and the large amount of curly hair. Knowing that this painting isn't perfect I am very proud of the work I produced and pleased with how much I learned in the process. I created the whole painting in Procreate and only moved it into Photoshop to add texture and noise.
My main struggle creating this was definitely the hair and refining the connections between the separate elements such as the face to hair and hair to shirt.
Even though having a degree in illustration and good foundational life drawing skills I am now mainly active as a graphic designer and have been neglecting my drawing practice a lot over the years. I always shied away from more classical and complex paintings thinking ''I could never do that sort of thing.'' Thank you for this absolut blast of a class Maurizio and breaking down this process into such manageable steps and showing me that we all can achieve such beautiful results with enough practice and patience.
