ASSIGNMENT

Let's have some fun. Your assignment today is to play with type and lettering to draw a quote, lyric, aphorism or punchline inspired by everyday life.

It could be your favorite song, a funny phrase you overheard on the street, or a play-on-words based on something that happened in your life (or on the internet).

I encourage you to walk around and get inspired by your surroundings — art, textures, sounds, people, found objects. It's amazing what ideas will come to you when you take the time to take your time.

Try playing around with different typefaces, effects, and optical illusions — morphing the letters to have a personality that matches the feeling of your phrase.

DELIVERABLE

Share your hand-lettered phrase in the Project Gallery. A completed project should include:

2-3 Thumbnails
1 Refined Sketch
1 Finished Drawing (Ink or Paint)

Feel free to share any other process shots along the way! I'd especially love to see where you got your inspiration from (textures, places, or even a found object :)

Don't wait until your drawing is finished to upload your project — share your rough sketches, get feedback from other students, and refine your ideas. Most importantly, have fun with it!
