Our June Teacher Newsletter went out over the weekend, and in it we shared a new engagement requirement for Skillshare classes. So for the next few weeks, our weekly conversations will focus on tips and strategies to make your classes more engaging and aim to help you find more success on Skillshare.

We’re kicking things off with another Community Tip, this time from Kasiemobi Udo-okoye, who works on Skillshare’s Curation team. Since high engagement starts with a quality class, we encourage teachers to follow our Class Quality Guidelines whenever they create a new class. One of these is vary your visuals, which is the focus of Kasiemobi’s tip:

“To boost the polish and attention-grabbing power of your class, remember that it’s important to vary the onscreen visuals, especially (but not only) in your intro video! Do some brainstorming and make a plan for what visuals you might need before you start filming to make the process a lot easier.

Here are a few examples that work really well in most classes:

B-roll of you arranging your supplies, organizing your workspace, or exploring physical spaces that bring you inspiration.
Images of your past work or performances that are relevant to the topic of your class.
Well-designed title cards and text animations.

Avoid relying on things like:

Excessive use of stock footage.
Piling multiple small images into one shot or clip – it’s better to transition between full size pictures so they can be seen clearly.
Imagery that is not relevant to the topic of the individual class topic.”
