In this class I want you to really work at creating a painting that speaks to your soul and to use the techniques I teach you to really explore the scene that your brushes are bringing to life. Oil painting is such a wonderfully forgiving medium that allows you the time to play around with it a lot before it dries, so use that to your advantage!

Materials:

You can find all of the materials that you need for this exciting class in my Online Paint Shop! There are two Class Bundles that you can fully customize to suit your needs and budget!

The blending brushes that I use are called Escoda Natural Bristle Brushes and the best sizes to get are 24 and 30. If you can only afford to go with one size, I would find one right in the middle at size 27.

Be sure to have a detail brush on hand with a nice soft and supple bristle. The Winsor and Newton University Series #1 and #2 Flat and the Princeton Select Flat Shaders # 4 and #6 that are in my shop are wonderful options.

You will need a palette to hold your paint and medium. I use butcher trays which are available in my Paint Shop but you can use anything that you like!

You will need an odourless solvent or a vegetable oil for cleaning your brushes. Eco-house and Gamsol are great products that I use.

There are three great options for mediums that I suggest using for this class:

Alkyd Walnut Oil is an all-natural medium that does not have any harmful fumes. It helps to speed up the drying time of your paintings.

Walnut Oil is another completely all-natural medium that extends the drying time of your paintings if you wish to have more time to work on each layer.

Liquin Light Gel significantly speeds up the drying time of your paintings but should be used in a well-ventilated space as it is not a natural product and does emit fumes.

You can use any brand of oil paint that you like for these classes, but for cost and availability Winsor & Newton and M. Graham & Sons are fabulous options. You will need Titanium White, Indigo, Prussian Green or Green Earth, and Charcoal Grey or Payne's Grey. These colours are the same for both the Misty Forest Tutorial and the Mist Building Masterclass.

I am painting on a 15"x30" canvas but please feel free to scale that up or down to whatever feels right for you!.

You don't need an easel for this class, in fact I highly recommend just leaning your painting against a wall on top of a desk or on the floor so that you can use the proper amount of pressure for the brushwork without having the painting moving around too much.

You will need some lint free shop towels or old rags on hand as well.
