Assignment

Your class project is to paint a pair of puffins using wet in wet and wet onto dry to form a mix of soft and hard edges.

Materials

the reference photos are from pixabay puffin 1 and puffin 2. I have provided a sketched template and the photo of both together that can be directly downloaded.

The paints I'll be using are

Daniel Smith Indigo
Winsor and Newton Yellow Ochre
Daniel Smith Transparent Brown Oxide (or Burnt Sienna)
Daniel Smith Pyrol Red
Daniel Smith Hansa Yellow medium
Holbein Sap Green
White Gouache (this is just for a tiny highlight in the eye, no need to buy it)

Brushes

I'll be using a Neef 970 taklon round size 2 and 3 (only because I started with the size 2 and lost it on my desk so had to use a size 3) and large oval brush, a neef 4750-LP size 12.

Arches cold press watercolour paper, 300g

Palette (I use a cheap basic one)

Board for the paper

Tissues/paper towel

HB pencil and eraser

Jar of water (two for this one as we use a lot of indigo which gets messy)
