Your assignment in this class is to paint two watercolor winter magical forest projects, using the framework and techniques I’ll be teaching.

The skills you learn here are going to help you improve your watercolor skills for landscape painting and beyond.

Each project is based on the same painting process framework, with small tweaks and additions each time. This is an effective system I use to build up on previous knowledge and experiment, in order to improve.

You will be more confident experimenting with colors. Color mixing won’t feel overwhelming anymore and you’ll know how to use just a few colors to paint a cohesive body of work.

With these magical forest paintings, you will also experience how the use of light and shadows, perspective and sometimes transparency, can impact the atmosphere and overall looks of any painting.

Now you’re all set, it is time to embark on our magical painting journey !

In project 1, we are standing in the forest and looking up, towards a beautiful and simple tree canopy.

This basic project will allow us to focus on painting the trees. You will learn to leverage light and color to make a simple painting beautiful.

Project 1 - A magical winter forest canopy

In project 2, we are taking a walk in mysterious snowy woods.

Again, we will use color mixing, perspective and a great contrast between the lights and shadows to our advantage. This time, we will be adding more depth with the transparency technique and the addition of a snow-covered ground.
