In this class you will be walking 4 different toning methods using varieties of tea and coffee in order to change the color of your cyanotype photography prints.

TIPS (I talk about these in more detail in the 3rd video)

Use good quality watercolor paper (there is lots of extra washing in toning)
Over expose your prints (your original cyanotype prints should be on the dark side)
Print multiple copies (so you can experiment with different techniques)
Let rest 24 hours at least (this will make for better tones)

ALL SUPPLIES

Cyanotype Supplies

Cyanotype Paper - Buy Pre-coated from Amazon or get cyanotype chemistry to mix and coat your own watercolor paper
Photo Frame - Any old photo frame will work for this. I would recommend using a frame that is larger than your paper size.
Something You Want to Print - In the example I'm using a digital negative printed on a transparency, but you can always choose to print a silhouette like a plant.

Toning Supplies

Bleach Bath (Feel free to only use one of these. You should be able to get either of these at a local store if you prefer)
- Ammonia - something like this will work best. Of course if you have an ammonia based household cleaner, you can try that too, but you will need to make a stronger solution.
- Washing Soda - amazon link
Toning Bath (each one of these will produce different colors, so you can use only one if you want)
- Green Tea
- Black Tea
- Instant Coffee
- Ground Coffee
Plastic Containers - these just need to be big enough to hold your print and deep enough to hold at least 1/2 liter of liquid. You'll need at least 3 of these, but if you have more you can work on multiple toning methods at once.

Alright, that's all you need! Be sure you make a project to share your finished toned prints
