Our first project will be to draw simple head shapes from a variety of angles.

Be sure to focus on these key points as you draw along:

- Draw a wide variety of angles to ensure you have a good understanding of your forms in space

- Focus on drawing a consistent structure from each angle.

I've included my examples from this course, along with several others, to guide you along.

Our second project will be to choose an angle, and draw a completed head. I encourage you to be creative with your choice of hairstyle and costume!

Key points to think about during this drawing:

- Be sure your features are drawn at the correct angles for the overall head angle you choose.

- Your shadows are informed by your choice of light source. Ensure that you don't place shadowing on surfaces that point toward your light.

- Draw your head large enough that you have room to detail it as much as you choose.

If you're feeling inspired, choose different angles, and challenge yourself to draw your character consistently from multiple views.

You can follow along in any medium you choose, but if you'd like to work traditionally as I've demonstrated, here is a list of tools you'll need:

- 2h pencil. I use a Staedller lead holder, but any type if fine

- Pencil sharpener. I use a Staedler lead pointer, which only works with a lead holder type pencil.

- Kneaded eraser.

- White eraser. I avoid pink because they have the possibility to stain the page pink!

- Paper. I use Strathmore 200 series bristol because it withstands inking very well. Pencil is more forgiving, so a particular type of paper isn't necessary. I do think that smooth surfaced paper is a better choice for detail, and be aware that very cheap paper can become damaged easily with erasing.

- Coffee. Feel free to substitute the drink you your choice!
