In this project, you will learn how to use the pen tool to help you create a clean vector version of a sketch.

SUPPLIES USED:

Pen or pencil
Paper
Scanner or your phone camera
Adobe Illustrator (30 day free trial here)

STEP 1:

Draw your sketch on paper and scan it into your computer. Alternatively, you can take a photo with your phone. The quality doesn't have to be perfect, because we'll just be using it as a template. If you have a tablet, you can complete your sketch with that and transfer the file to your computer.

STEP 2:

Place your sketch as a template into Illustrator, and trace it using the pen tool in Illustrator. For bonus points, add color. You can either export your Illustrator file as a JPG or PNG or take a screen capture. Upload the image of your vectorized sketch to your class project. You're all done!
