Your class project will be to create an animated letter GIF.

I’ll be showing you 3 different methods of making GIFs, so you might like to choose the one you like best, or why not have a go at all 3 :)

We will start by:

brainstorming your initial sketches,
exploring lettering styles,
and identifying some useful places to find inspiration for your letter illustrations such as the Pinterest board I mention in the video.

I’ll be giving you a few tips and templates to help you if you’re less confident with drawing. The worksheet in the project resources is a really useful tool to enable you to jump right into creating your class project.

We will then:

explore color, and factors to consider when choosing colors to use in your GIF designs, both from a technical and visual perspective,
import your first drawing into Photoshop and make our first color-changing gif.
revisit our initial drawing and work with it to create a gif with an animated wobbling effect.
Finally, we will add a few more hand drawn elements to create our third gif which will be an animated image-changing gif.
In the bonus lesson we will export your GIFs as MP4 files so that you can share them on Instagram

I'll be showing you every stage of the process step by step, so you can follow along with me and be sure to create a fantastic class project whether it’s your first time using Photoshop, or you're an experienced designer.
