Create A Character From The Post-Apocalypse!

CLASS DESCRIPTION

In this class you will create a cartoon character that could fit into a Post-Apocalyptic world (think Mad Max or Blade Runner style). Keep in mind this should be fun and very stylized. After all this is for kids so nothing too gruesome. Stylistically, draw from a lot of 80's era and mix that with a future, punk world setting. Be creative and have fun with this!

We will be using pencils, ink, erasers and whiteout pens. Nothing crazy, very cheap and easy to get. Anyone can create these characters!

CLASS PROJECT

Materials:

Pencil, Paper, Eraser, Pen, and Sharpie Marker.

The Class Project:

Gather reference and inspiration for character.
Begin loosely sketching thumbnail versions of our character, keeping the drawing simple and gestural.
Experiment with the character. Find the silhouette and personality.
Choose from your drawings, and redraw the character larger and more precise.
Create variations of the character to push elements and test alternative versions.
Post your finished work on the Skillshare Classroom Board!
And most importantly Have fun!

CLASS OUTLINE HERE

Class Description:

Create a Stylize Animated Character set in the alternative world of the future (the 80’s! Think Mad Max or Blade Runner) that could be used in Animation or a Video Game.

Class Project:

Create a cartoon character that could fit into a Post-Apocalyptic world (think Mad Max or Blade Runner style). Keep in mind this should be fun and very stylized. After all this is for kids so nothing too gruesome. Stylistically, draw from a lot of 80's era and mix that with a future, punk world setting. Be creative and have fun with this!

We will be using pencils, ink, erasers and white-out pens. Nothing crazy, very cheap and easy to get. Anyone can create these characters!

Create a few variations on this characters. Think of what cloths, props, or other elements you can combine into the character to give them more dimension and visual interest.

Things you will learn:

-How to brainstorm ideas for your character and put those amazing ideas onto paper quickly.

- How to get the proper reference for the project and what to look for when looking for ideas or inspiration.

- How to stylize your designs into a sleek looking animated character that could be used in Animation or a Video Game. We’ll talk about form, silhouette, character traits and story elements and how to incorporate them.

- Best of All, we’ll do most of our work with a pencil, pen, and paper. So no prior experience to take this class, just the desire to draw and create unique, fun characters. You can follow along if you’d like or create your own characters that fit into the world.

**BONUS

- If we have time, I may cover how to create a sidekick or vehicle for our character. This may get pushed to another class though.

My Digital Character Sculpting : Creating a stylized animal character based on photograph / concept sketch. BRING Your characters to life

Create and Design an animated/Vinyl toy stylized character based on a drawing or reference image of a cute baby animal. You can work from any animal image you would like, or you can follow along with me. Also, Think of an action item the character can be holding or playing with.

-Find an image of a cute animal online. Cute pose good features to emphasize and stress.

-Make notes or paint-overs in Photoshop.

-Start blocking out character In Maya or Zbrush based on observation and notes.

-Start sculpting basic forms of chosen animal.

-Sculpt Details.

-Refine

-Render (Zbrush or Keyshot)
