My goals for this project are:

practice drawing on paper rather than a tablet
learn to embrace and celebrate imperfections
practice drawing in a more stylized (non-realistic) way, without getting super caught up in adding a ton of detail
explore different styles of hand-lettering

Day 1:

At this point, I still wasn't sure what I wanted my "theme" to be so I just tried to put something on the page to get started. I took some lettering inspiration from the book "Slab Serif Type" by Louise Fili and Stephen Heller.

Day 2:

The theme is "30 Fruity Days," starting with my all-time favorite fruit (the lemon). There's more detail in this illustration than I had intended, but it was really fun exploring this new medium (I've never used Posca pens before) and trying out a new style.

Day 3:

I've decided to alternate between illustration and lettering each day to keep my drawing sessions short. I chose another page of the "Slab Serif Type" for inspiration, sketched out "LEMON" super fast (10 min.) in pen in another notebook, and then added the lettering to my Day 2 drawing. I actually really like the way this looks, and I know that if I'd done this lettering in Procreate I would have spent SO much more time trying to make it "perfect."
