About This Class

This class will teach you how to create and animate 3D lettering in Adobe After Effects. I will show you how to use the After Effects built-in 3D extrusion tool to create three-dimensional lettering. I will take you through the process of positioning your lettering in 3D space, animating the extrusion and setting up colour controls to add some depth to your letters.

Who This Class Is For

This class is perfect for animation and After Effects beginners. No previous knowledge of typography is needed. Some knowledge of creating keyframes and manoeuvring the software, might come in handy, but you don’t have to worry, I’ll take you through everything.

What You'll Learn

Creating 3D Lettering
- I will talk you through extruding text in After Effects
- You will learn how to position your text in 3D space
- You’ll use the rotation and orientation properties
Animating 3D Lettering
- You will learn how to animate the extrude property
- You will create a looped animation of your lettering
Colour Properties
- You will add colours to your letters
- You will link colour properties to controllers
- You will learn how to use controller to manipulate linked colours

Materials / Resources

We will be creating lettering in After Effects, so you don’t need to have any assets ready. It would help to prepare a short quote of 3-5 words. You will not need any other software to create this animation apart from Adobe After Effects.

Why You Should Watch

By the end of this class you will have a solid understanding of the 3D tool and how to use the 3D space inside After Effects.

You will be able to create three-dimensional lettering of your favourite phrase and share it on social media. You can also use this knowledge to create a 3D logo for your brand.
