My background is in archaeology (my MA is in Early Medieval Archaeology from University of York) and most of my excavations were spent camping on site and loving every minute (even more than digging and hauling wheelbarrows full of dirt, who knew?). Having spent my early years in Southern California with adventurous parents, camping was part of life that I'd assumed everyone was born to do. Imagine my surprise when friends and acquaintances commented on how they'd always wanted to camp but just didn't know how to get started.

Aside from digging up the past, camping, exploring and hiking, my other passion is creative writing. I've written many novels and children's stories with various small publishing houses (some self-published as well) and love how every camping adventure usually comes with a new inspiration for a story. One day I'll put all my camping stories together in one tome, but for now, I'm happy teaching beginners the basics and joys of outdoor adventure.
