You'll learn that operational and analytical dashboards are all around us. By understanding how our brain works, and applying design principles, you will be able to create your own dashboard to use as a portfolio piece or to just test out your new knowledge. You will need the knowledge you have gained from this class, and paper and pencil. For more high fidelity designs, programs like Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, Adobe XD, or any other design software will be needed.

Your challenge, apply the knowledge from this class and design your own operational or analytical dashboard, either using paper and pencil sketches, or high fidelity designs using Sketch, Figma, Photoshop, etc.

Steps for the project

Ask yourself where would a dashboard be helpful/informative in my day to day life.
What information do you need the dashboard to tell you to make more informed decisions?
Write down what information you need to see and how you want to display that information. For example, what types of visuals are needed for this?
Draw squares/blocks out on paper using the inverted pyramid method.
Add section titles to your blocks to define the information the dashboard is providing.
Add color using markers or pencils and even bring it to the computer using Sketch, Adobe XD, Figma, etc.
Upload your dashboard example to share with the class. I can also provide feedback to you if you’d like to use it as a portfolio piece.

Your final submission can be in a jpeg, png, or PDF format. You can either upload your low fidelity sketches or your high fidelity masterpiece. Have fun using construction paper and cut-outs to really explore the possibilities—let’s get creative.
