Class project will involve painting five peaceful and atmospheric monochrome landscapes—each exploring the behavior of a single pigment while practicing depth, value, and misty effects. Each day is a project will be uploaded for 5 days, designed to help you grow your confidence and creativity with watercolors!

Project Instructions

Begin by creating a value chart for each of the colors you plan to use. This will help you understand the full tonal range of each pigment—from the lightest wash to the deepest shade.
You’re welcome to use your own favorite colors or follow the palette I’ve provided in the class. I have added final projects in resources section to help you make color selections!
Once your pieces are complete, don’t forget to upload your work to the ‘Projects & Resources’ section so we can all admire your beautiful misty pine scenes!

Materials You’ll Need

Watercolor Paper: Any 100% cotton, cold-pressed paper will work well. I’m using Arches, 15cm x 15cm.
Brushes:
- Silver Brush Black Velvet Series: Round sizes 4 & 6, Jumbo Round size SM – A blend of natural and synthetic hairs, perfect for beautiful watercolor flow.
- Silver Brush Belle Aqua Series: Round sizes 4 & 6, and a liner brush size 1 – These synthetic brushes provide excellent water control and sharp details, great for our misty forest scenes.
Watercolor Paints: Choose any five watercolors. I’ve curated a calming palette of blues, greens, and browns to reflect the mood of misty pines, but feel free to explore your favorite hues!
A mixing palette or ceramic plate
Masking tape for clean edges
A non-absorbent board to secure your paper
Fresh water for every painting session
Pencil for light sketching
Paper towel or cotton cloth to dab brushes and control moisture
