Bring your dream world into existence!

Hello everyone! For this course, we are focusing on creating 3D worlds or whatever you imagine to come alive. So for this first part, you will create a 3D world scene in Unity for that world. You can make it as elaborate as you want with the knowledge you will acquire in this part.

I will show you how to create your own unique game terrain or 3D world and you will put all* the items that you need to make your first scene. You can populate it with trees, plants, rocks, buildings, water, etc. Remember this terrain or location is the world of your characters, this is where the game scenes happen, starting with this one. This is where your characters will interact with the world or other characters if you have them in your game.

*Note: Don't add a lot for now. You can finish it later. Think of the story you are telling.

You will learn in this course about the basic components of a Unity Scene. This knowledge is the first step in game designing. This project allows you to demonstrate and practice with several Unity components and objects. Also, you will learn about game object manipulation, resizing and texturing. Also, you will learn how to leverage the Asset Store to obtain free items.

Bringing your world into existence:

Part 1 focuses on the creation of the 3D world or location the course takers need for their characters. The emphasis is to create a 3D world scene in Unity for that world or location. Course takers can make it as elaborate as they want with the knowledge they will acquire in part one.

This is the class outline

Step 1: Download Unity 3D-Free version and start thinking about the type of world you want to create

Got to Unity 3D and download the FREE version of the software.

Step 2: It is time to learn the basics about Unit 3D engine, the controls and start thinking about the type of world you want to create.

There are several videos in the class about this step. Make sure if you get stuck to send me message and I will try to assist you as much as I can

Step 3: Create and position the main camera and add a source of light and adjust them so they visible in the game mode.

You will decide if you have a normal light or different light for your game. All depends of the type of world you are bringing into existence.

Step 4: It is time to learn about the Unit 2D Asset Store and download all the textures and materials we need to create the world's we are imagining.

I am taking you and showing you around the store make sure that you only download what you need and keep in my the dates and size of it.

Step 5: Decorate the terrain using the assets you downloaded from the Assets' Store. Add trees, plants, grass, rocks, water, skybox, etc.

Add materials to the terrain to start building the world for your characters.

Step 6: Continue decorating the terrain, make it really nice to prepare that first scene. We will talk about characters & animations in the next part of the course-week 2.

You will decide what type of trees, plants, rocks, etc. It is all up to you. It doesn't really matter what you put in there. It is your world and all depends of the type of world you are bringing into existence as long as it fits with the story you are creating.

Step 7: If you are still unsure about your story, your world, etc. Please check the multiple examples found at the start and towards the end of the class. I hope you will find some inspiration there.

Step 8: Post screenshots in the project gallery showing your creation or build a PC/Mac app or Web app from the build settings menu.

Link to post your project to the class
Write a short description of your scene
Upload some screenshots of your scene
You don't need to create a web player game for this part, but if you do make sure you share both the html and the .unity3d file.
Once you are further alone in your project you can also share it using YouTube, Dropbox, etc.

Step 9: Please provide feedback if can to other students and check their projects you might find something you like but be constructive, positive and friendly in all your communications.

Finally:

I am making a course that will teach beginners the basic of Game Design. The course has several parts. I am thinking about 5 parts, you can see the list at the bottom. The course is for beginners. Basically anyone that is interested in Game design using Unity 3D Free version. I am planning other courses using different engines like Unreal engine, Blender, iClone, Construct 2 as soon as I am done with all these parts.
